Designer of the month - Johanna Ortiz!

Posted on 11 agosto 2015

Hi there!

Today I'm back with my usual post "designer of the month"!

This month I've choosen Johanna Ortiz,

"...Colombian designer on everyone’s radar who believes showing off your shoulders and neck is sexier than a tight dress. Her recent rise to fame can be credited to a particular off-the-shoulder top that has since become her signature. For Resort the Colombian designer (and name on everyone's lips) plays up her trademark femininity with ruffled blouses and pleated orchid-print dresses. Each silhouette is expertly crafted to accentuate the shoulders and waist, never leaving aside that trademark sexy twist"(ModaOperandi)

One of my latest Polyvore sets including  one of Ortiz's most amazing creations: the "Poppy" dress!

L' Amour est un PAPILLON

Posted on 7 febbraio 2013

The word "Papillon" seems to have been used for the first time by Croat mercerian soldiers during "30 Years War" in the XIX century.
Croats used a ribbon to tie shirts which weren't likely to have bottons.
When this tecnique came to France everyone was surprised and that simple method became an unavoidable simbol of elegance which passed from country to country reaching "Culumbus's country" and "The Great Wall".

The word Papillon was introduced in France, meaning Butterfly in order to remember its shape, close to the one of Lepidopterus.
Italy had introduced new terms such as "Cravattino", "Cravatta a farfalla" "Farfallino" and "Farfalla" to avoid the usage of the French word but there are plenty of other terms that change from part to part of the peninsula (For example, "Du mazzi" in Sicily and Calabria).

Papillon still keeps its charm and its touch of originality, halfway between symbol of elegance and kitch detail, often worn by young nerds and artists.
In these months it seems that it has become top-item of many stylists and it might become the best accessory of the year.
Autumn-Winter Tom Ford collection proofs it (Seen my post about it: http://thepeacocksvoice.blogspot.it/2013/01/tom-ford-aw13-menswear.html)  and so does Dsquared choice and Dolce & Gabbana's to bring their Opinion.Leaders on the stage of The Golden Ball Award with their papillons on display
 (http://thepeacocksvoice.blogspot.it/2013/01/abito-d-oro-2012-messi-vs-cristiano.html).

Recently, papillon has found its place in female collections, avertisements and catwalks (Burberry, Chanel, Moschino, Lanvin and Dolce & Gabbana, to quote a few). It gives the look and androgynous touch which is very seductive at the same time.
It seems that women choice to wear it to express their self establishment: being a must-have isn't enough for them, it's  just the detail that paint them different from the others.
